im going to ask some sooper noob questions that have been well worn in the forums, but ive yet to really find an answer:

does anyone have smiley bumpers for sale?

exactly how much power is made from putting a 20r head on a 22r block?

looking forward to becoming a member.

Welcome,

It will be nice for someone besides me to ask some super noob questions :ohyeah:

As for Smiley's watch the Parts for Sale Forum & E-Bay. Real ones, Chrome biggrin Don't come often or cheap, and I think they are harder to come by for the 77 Liftback, others who own those can attest. Fiberglass reproductions that you can paint are in the Vendor's Section, under "Fiberglass Parts" Thread, a member on the site from Utah I believe makes them, he also sells on e-Bay.

For the Hybrid 20R/22R, check the Project sections, a few people have them, done up good I think one guy dyno's about 165hp at the wheels. A huge improvement over the stock 96hp.

V8 Swaps, again look in the Project sections, I've seen 302 Ford, 350 Chev, Mopar, and of course the 1UZ-FE Lexus/Toyota 4.0L Quad Cam 32 Valve V8 :2thumbs:

thanks pete.

so my options are to either build a 22r/20r hybrid and swap in a v8 later, or just bite the bullet and go for the long haul now. i can get a 1uz for 500.. but i want a 5 speed and i hear the adaptor is super expensive for the bellhousing.

im sure with more searching i could find the answer, but what is the easiest v8 5 speed swap? do i have to use a toyota tranny? time to hit the forums..

in related news, anyone want to buy a built up eagle talon awd or a fwd stock corolla gts?

looking forward to being a celica member.

Just plopping the 20R head on the 22R bottom won't get you a ton of power, but I'd guess it might get you to about 120ish to the wheels. Which is noticeably better than stock. Fully built they have been known to make upwards of 200 rwhp, after upgrading the cam in mine again I'm hoping to be at about 180 rwhp.

As for the V8, I know going Toyota is a huge factor, but in reality, a 4 cam overhead V8 is pretty tight sqeeze. The smallest cheap domestic V8 is the Ford 302. It's the most compact domestic V8, and it's not overly heavy either. Obviously 5 speeds transmissions are a dime a dozen.

thank you for all your quick replies... this is a much more mature and helpful then other forums ive belonged to...

so for now, im sourcing a 22r bottom end (81-84, right?) and will be buying the car hopefully within the month.. got to finish the wiring harness on the fwd corolla and wire up an safc on the dsm.. then they are both ready to sell.

questions: ive owned a few performance cars over the years, but have never tried porting myself. does porting really help the 20r head? as this will be my 3rd keeper car, what are my options for cheap cams(or is there?)? does anyone sell metal head gaskets? do i need a 20r set or 22r set for a hybrid?

sorry for the barrage of questions, but ive been cramming years of data into my googlebrain in the last few days..

ive only seen a couple of pics of the shark mod and the pushed in bumper mod... how bad do the 77 liftbacks look with no bumper at all? any pics? thank you so much.....

Well here you can see the 77 lift back with no bumpers, but don't get a good view of the front.. Although not having bumpers is probably illegal.

I'll second that steering wheel removal, but the car looks great otherwise!

The code to post images on the forum, looks like so...

Code: Select all

thanks, im still new to posting pics..

just watched the chase scene in bullitt.... my v8 hunger grows even stronger. i still havent made up my mind about what rear end, because i found out that ford 4 lug is different then toyota 4 lug... so it might be the cressy rear with supra diff after all... anyway, ill be using my new found skill of posting pics as soon as we get it in the shop and flayed open.
