saying hi to the world
Hello to all,
New kid on the block but not at all new to Celicas. My home is Brisbane, Australia and i'm a one owner of a 3/1977 Australian delivered RA28 Toyota Celica. The car was fully restored back in 1995 and air brushed graphics on the engine cover and intercooler in 98 and has been untouched since then, my painter keeps remindering me that the paint job is well out of it's warranty he he. My RA28 is quite well known here because of it's engine and driveline combination which i have been running and perfecting since 1990. The engine is an 18RG and even though i runs 18RGEU prepared head there is no injection and no computer but there are two early (G) series Solex sidedrafts, I call it (fuel injetion with my brains). The (G) series block was bored to 92.5mm and the standard crank was stroked 3mm and with the combination of 3.5mm longer 16R rods and aftermarket 22RE pistons gave me 92.5mm x 86.5mm. These pistons are dished and also need to fly cut for valved relief, once set up total deck height of the pistons are 30 thou below and a compression ratio of 6:8.5:1. With a closer ratio in 1st, 2nd, 3rd P51 5 speed gearbox, the combination of the HKS 18RG turbo kit and a T04 turbocharger i blow through two Solexs to max 21 psi. The engine develops 320 flywheel hp, 298 nm of torque at 6,600 rpm. You really need to imagine the looks i get when they find two Solexs rather than fuel injection, once opening the bonnet. I have an engraved plate in the engine bay which reads.......
" Do it right, so that you will gratify some and astonish the rest "
anyway this should give you a little of what i'm about, so it's good to be here with my oldschool technology still fresh in my mind.
regards... Cliff

Re: saying hi to the world
Interesting way to do the stroker but why not use the 20r(89mm stroke) crank and 20r rods with the 92/92.5mm bore and get a 2371cc (vs 2325cc) or bigger if 92.5mm bore(2392cc). The 16r is impossible to source here in the states thats why I did it this way anyway. The pistons are not oof the shelf however like yours. Sounds like a nice setup up though pictures would be nice if you have any. Welcome to the board!

Re: saying hi to the world
Really no 20r there huh. The 22r is the same crank and rods so thats an option as well. If you ever pop yours then you can try it then. I shall Google you then. You need to host the photos somewhere like Photobucket etc. Then just use the IMG link while posting. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Welcome to the site. Ask me or on of the Mods and we will be happy to help you out.

the way Cary did.

Hello Cliff, I'm also an Aussie and have admired your car over the years, albeit from afar as I'm in western Sydney. Would love to see it in person some day. You ever frequent the Toymods forum? Your knowledge and car would be much appreciated there. I've always wondered what your front spoiler was off? For more pics scroll through this page; http://www.norbie.net/cccq.htm -Josh
